How to connect Stripe and accept payments

In RentProg, Stripe tops up a client's balance by bank card. An employee creates a payment link, the client pays on the Stripe page, and after confirmation from Stripe the amount is credited to the client's balance automatically. The payment is made in the branch's main currency.

Who has access

Stripe has no country restriction.

What to prepare in Stripe

  • the publishable key — starts with pk_test_ or pk_live_;
  • the secret key — starts with sk_test_ or sk_live_;
  • the webhook signing secret — starts with whsec_;
  • two pages of your website: where to send the client after payment and after they cancel it.

How to connect Stripe

  1. Open the company profile, the “Integrations” tab.
  2. Expand the “Stripe” panel.
  3. Turn on “Enable Stripe”.
  4. Enter the keys from your Stripe dashboard in the Publishable Key, Secret Key and Webhook Secret fields.
  5. Specify the “Success redirect URL” and the “Cancel redirect URL”.
  6. Click “Save”.

While the toggle is on, the settings will not be saved without all five values: the system will warn you that Stripe is not configured.

The secret key and the webhook secret are not shown after saving. The field shows the hint “Set — leave blank to keep it”. To erase a key, click “Delete key” and confirm: the integration will stop working until a new one is entered.

Important

Without the webhook secret, RentProg does not accept Stripe's payment messages, and the client's balance will not be topped up even if the money has been charged. In the Stripe dashboard you need an event endpoint that points to the /api/v1/integrations/stripe_payments/webhook address of the RentProg server; its secret is what you enter in Webhook Secret.

RentProg processes the events checkout.session.completed, payment_intent.succeeded, payment_intent.payment_failed, payment_intent.canceled, charge.succeeded, charge.updated, charge.failed, charge.refunded and the dispute events charge.dispute.*.

  1. Open the client card and click the icon with the tooltip “Top up via Stripe”.
  2. Enter the “Amount” and, if you like, the “Description (optional)”.
  3. Click “Create payment”.
  4. Send the link to the client with the “Send to Email” or “Send to messengers” button, or show them the QR code from the same window.

The icon in the client card appears only when Stripe is enabled and both keys are set. The amount must be greater than zero.

The “Send to messengers” button sends the link through the connected WhatsApp or Telegram. If no messenger is connected, WhatsApp opens with a ready-made message. Sending requires the client's phone; an email requires their email address.

Tip

The client can also top up the balance themselves, from the client portal: when Stripe is configured, the portal offers card payment.

What happens after payment

When Stripe confirms the payment, RentProg records a “Client balance top-up” operation as a cashless payment and increases the client's balance. Crediting for a single payment is done exactly once, even if Stripe sends the confirmation again.

All of the client's payments are visible in their card, in the “Stripe payments” table.

StatusWhat it means
Order createdThe payment has been created; there is no link yet
Waiting for payment confirmationThe link has been issued; no payment yet
Payment successfulThe money has been received and credited to the balance
Payment failedThe payment did not go through or the link could not be obtained
Payment canceledThe payment was canceled in Stripe
Partially refundedPart of the amount was refunded to the client
RefundedThe full amount was refunded to the client

How to make a refund

  1. Open the client card and find the “Stripe payments” table.
  2. Click “Refund” next to a successful payment.
  3. Enter the “Refund amount” — full or partial, no more than the “Available for refund” amount.
  4. Click “Confirm refund”.

Important

The money is returned to the client's card, and the operation cannot be undone. The client's balance will decrease when Stripe confirms the refund. While a previous refund for this payment is not complete, a new one is not accepted.

A refund made directly in the Stripe dashboard will also be taken into account by RentProg if it receives an event about it.
