How to chat with clients via Teletype

Teletype gathers conversations from different messengers into one window. Connected to RentProg, it lets you reply to a client in a separate messages section without switching between apps.

Important

The integration is marked as beta. This means its behavior may change; it's better to duplicate critical agreements with the client somewhere the conversation is sure to be kept.

Steps

  1. Open Teletype using the chat icon in the top bar or “Teletype messages” in the menu.
  2. Choose a dialog — without it, sending is unavailable.
  3. Write a message and send it.
  4. Allow sound if you want to hear new messages: the browser won't turn it on by itself.

What you need to do once

Check that Teletype is included in your subscription plan; otherwise, the settings panel is unavailable. Enter the Teletype API key in the company profile. Without the key, the messages section doesn't work.

You need to choose a dialog

The conversation happens inside a dialog, and the dialog is chosen explicitly. Until it's chosen, sending is unavailable — the system will tell you that you need to choose a dialog first.

Select the conversation you need in the dialog list in the Teletype section.

Tip

If no dialog is found, it's not an integration failure. Most often the client simply hasn't written to you yet in any of the connected messengers.

Refreshing and sound

The list is refreshed with a “pull down” gesture — just like in mobile apps.

The browser doesn't turn on sound notifications for new messages by itself: you need to allow it with the sound button. Until you do, messages arrive silently.

An empty message won't be sent

Sending empty text is rejected. If a message doesn't go through and there's no error, check that the field is actually filled in and a dialog is chosen.

What you need besides the key

The integration is enabled individually

The Teletype section is available to staff when a key is set and the company has separate access approval. If the service is included in your subscription plan and the key is entered, but the section has not appeared, contact support to check company access.

In Teletype itself, you need to connect a messenger channel. Message templates and auto-replies are set up there too, not in RentProg.
