How to connect a GPS tracker or beacon
The integration is chosen in the vehicle card, in the GPS integration section. Each vehicle is connected separately.
One integration per vehicle
The options are chosen with a switch, so they are mutually exclusive:
| Option | What it is |
|---|---|
| “No integration” | Beacon data is stored for reference |
| RentProg | Our own monitoring service |
| StarLine | The external StarLine service |
| Wialon | Can't be selected at the moment |
Important
Wialon is in the list, but selecting it is blocked. This isn't a permissions error or a plan issue — the option is temporarily disabled entirely.
Why an option may be unavailable
External services need two conditions at once:
- the integration is enabled in the company profile;
- it's included in the plan.
One isn't enough: StarLine connected in the profile stays unavailable if it isn't in the plan, and vice versa. The RentProg option doesn't require the second (plan) condition — it's enough for the company to have beacons enabled.
Beacon data
Three fields — IMEI, phone, and PIN — are filled in both for the RentProg option and with no integration. In the second case they don't connect anything: this is reference data so the beacon details don't get lost.
What to do before connecting
- Check that your tracker model is supported. Devices outside the supported list can't be connected — this is a limitation of the monitoring service, not a setting.
- Find out the port your model works on: each model has its own.
- Ask support to activate monitoring for your company.
- After activation, log in to the system again — until you do, the section remains unavailable.
Important
The server and port are configured in the tracker itself, not in RentProg. You'll get the server address and parameters from support upon activation: there's no point publishing them in the help center — they change along with the infrastructure.
Connecting to RentProg
- Choose the RentProg option.
- Fill in the beacon's IMEI and phone number.
- Click the beacon connect button.
Until it's connected, tracker actions are unavailable: current position, mileage, and mileage refresh become available only after the vehicle is registered in the tracker service.
Important
The connect button is available when beacons are enabled for the company and the current user has an account in the monitoring service. If the button is inactive, check these conditions with the company administrator or support.
Staff with the “Employee”, “Manager”, “Branch manager”, and “Main Administrator” roles can connect and remove a device. If the request is accepted but Traccar has not responded yet, the message is “The tracker is being added — refresh the card in a minute”. If the IMEI is empty, the system shows “Enter the tracker IMEI, then connect the tracker.” If the IMEI is already linked to another vehicle or company, the message is “A tracker with this IMEI is already connected to another company or car. Check the IMEI.”
Built-in fleet maps are no longer available. The “Trackers” menu item opens the external Traccar map only in a desktop browser and when the tracker service is enabled.
If data isn't coming in
Check in order, from the most common to the rarest:
- The IMEI is unique — a device with someone else's or a duplicate IMEI won't appear;
- The PIN matches the one set in the tracker (check the factory value in the device manual, not from memory);
- The server address and port are entered in the tracker without typos;
- The SIM card is active and has mobile data;
- the monitoring service has been activated by support.
RentProg support doesn't configure the tracker itself
We're responsible for receiving and displaying the data. Configuring the device is up to the manufacturer, the mobile carrier, or the installer.
